The occupying forces were knowledgeable and demanded the 9697 — a tram in excellent condition — to be transferred to Germany. The team, which came to collect the tram later, effectively got the 9697, but this was a different tram (9708), in much worse condition and stripped of a number of vital elements...
Of course, the tram's condition was even worse when it returned from Germany. The tram was not put back into service in Belgium and the remaining parts were used to repair other trams.
