Coach for the horse-powered Chañarcillo railway, the second horse-tram line in Chile, which operated between Pabellón and Chile's largest silver mine at Chañarcillo, opened 30 Jan 1859.
Similar horsecars built by the same manufacturer operated in New York, Brooklyn and Boston in the 1850s.
Cars 23, 24 & 25 and the numberless freight car are displayed at the Universidad de Atacama in Copiapó behind the Latin America's oldest steam locomotive, built by Norris in Philadelphia in 1850.
These four cars are considered the world's oldest trams. |
