Первый показательный самый лёгкий стартовый участок линии метро 1 был открыт 28.04.1990.
Участок длиной 9,2 км. находисля на окраине города, и преимущественно не имел эстакад.
Однако из-за экономических проблем в стране, дальнейшее строительство линии было заморожено более чем на 20 лет.
Стартовый участок не достигал центра города, и не покрывал районы с адекватной заселённостью. Как следствие, работа линии оказалась экономически несостоятельной и была эпизодической.

The first and the easiest starter fragment of the Line 1 was pressed into service 28.04.1990.
The peripheral 9,2 km.-long segment was mostly on the surface, not elevated.
Due to country's economic problems, however, further construction was mothballed for 20 years.
Since the starter segment neither reached the Central Lima, nor areas of adequate population density, it was uneconomical to operate, and boasted only spotty service.
