The original motors were indeed replaced in 1902...
It's of course true that some components were replaced over the years. And thankfully so.

The ride on this 131 year old car is nevertheless an interesting affair, considering knowledge of the age of the car.

On the second day of my visit to the Isle of Man, this oldest car was assigned to the special unscheduled morning 'ghost' (local lingo) run from Douglas to Laxey, which meets the first scheduled run from Laxey. The 'ghost' run is not listed in the schedules and precedes the first scheduled run of the day. It carries very few passengers 'in the know', and is assumed to be a railfan run. I have a very strong impression this unique car 1 was assigned to the special run on the day in question because of my visit, after I was making inquiries with local operations personnel regarding this run a day before (but I didn't explicitly ask for specific car assignment). EVERYONE is exceptionally nice and accommodating on the island.

Back to car 1 performance. The wooden 'box' on top of the platform sways with every move of the car, and the outer wall fluctuates in relation to position of the seats and passenger bodies. This feels like an ultimate exercise in the science of structural stresses of the materials. A truly unforgettable experience ))

Поездка на этом 131-летнем вагоне является интересным мероприятием для тех, кто осознаёт каков на самом деле возраст вагона.

На второй день моего визита на остров Мэн, этот самый старый вагон был приписан к специальному утреннему рейсу "призраку" (местный жаргон) из Дугласа в Лaкси, который не упоминается в расписании. Данная ездка подгоняет вагон к первому обратному рейсу из Лакси, который есть в расписании. "Призрачный" рейс предшествует первому официальному рейсу, указанному в расписнаии. Как следствие, на "призрачном" трамвае едет очень мало пассажиров, только те, кто "осведомлён". Соответственно рейс как бы сам собой является трамвофанатским. У меня сложилось чёткое впечатление, что уникальный вагон 1 был выставлен на данный специальный рейс из-за моего визита, после того как я наводил справки у местного персонала относительно этого рейса накануне (но при этом предписаний по вагонам напрямую я не запрашивал). Суммируя, на острове Мэн ВСЕ исключительно гостеприимны ))

Возвращаясь к характеристикам вагона 1. По мере движения, деревянная "коробка" корпуса пoверх платформы раскачивается при каждом колебании вагона, а внешняя стенка совершенно конкретно отклоняется относительно положения сидений и тел пассажиров. Что напоминает некое экстремальное упражнение по сопромату. Реально незабываемoе впечатлениe ))
