At the time of the photo the Line 3 was a short low-ridership shuttle-like service that operated between the outer terminals of Winzerla, Lobeda-West and Lobeda-Ost. It was served with single Gotha cars throughout the last years of operation of 2-axle trams in Jena. The last Gotha car in the city of Jena ran on this line on 09.07.2003, which was supposed to be the last day of operation of these trams in Jena. However, Gotha cars will briefly re-appear in service on the Line 2 in 2004 during the bridge construction.

На момент съёмки маршрут 3 являлся коротким второстепенным челночным маршуртом, курсирующим между переферийными конечными Winzerla, Lobeda-West, и Lobeda-Ost. В последние годы работы двухосников в Йене, на маршруте 3 ходили одиничные вагоны Гота. Последний выход таких вагонов на линию в Йене состоялся на данном маршруте 09.07.2003, что должно было стать последним днём работы вагонов Гота в Йене. Однако позднее вагоны Гота временно появятся на маршруте 2 ещё на некоторое время, в 2004 г. на время ремонта моста.
