Congratulations, you a very lucky. A working trolleybus in Coimbra is a rarity. I had never gotten lucky, nor did many of other visitors I know.

And a great photo, as always.

Also it is very unusual, that city has the only trolleybus network in Portugal, but doesn’t invest in development and restoration of trolleybus technology and buy new electric buses, some of them operated in ex-trolleybus routes. I believe it should be more economical to renew trolleybus wires and buy new trolleybuses firstly and than buy electric buses.

What do you think about it? And have you any information about public transport policy in Coimbra? Maybe they want to replace trolleybuses with electric buses, like it was in Mendoza?

The policy is to get more electric buses.

In 2018, 5 trolley buses came back to the streets, running on the 2 trolley bus equipped lines. No further expansion is planned and there are no plans to buy new trolley buses.

Unless something changes, it looks like the system will slowly die over time and trolley buses will be replaced by electric ones.

There are no immediate plans to repair/upgrade wires.

Thanks so much! I didn´t expect I will be a lucky person. I had 3 Salvador and Solaris in service, particularly 2 Salvador on line 103 and the rest on 4. Each of these routes were operated only by one bus.
In the end, thanks for the praise!
Anyway I have more shots so I will publish them also).

I thought that Coimbra purchased 6 new VanHoll trolleybuses with alternative engine. Some of them should be delivered until the end of year. Its not true eventually it was cancelled?

Petr,
I don't see any reliable sources about that tender.
There's this tender here:
https://ted.europa.eu/udl?uri=TED:NOTICE...tabId=0
which was won by BYD for electric buses, but I see nothing for trolley buses.
These electricb uses will be used on the Metro Mondego BRT line.

On another note, Coimbra also bought a bunch of electric minibuses for the city center.

A fantastic photo, just like the others you posted today.
As far as Van Hool is concerned, this is more than likely about the 'Exquicity' type.
Here in Flanders (and Vilvoorde to be precise) a new tram line was promised with new trams (of course...). It officially became a 'tram-bus' and that is a normal (hybrid) bus, which was then called 'tram-bus' for the occasion.
The type is also available as trolleybus and in Linz I photographed them recently ( https://transphoto.org/photo/1380399/ ).
But everything indicates that Coimbra has ordered hybrids and highlights the electrical aspect. But they will more than likely be ordinary buses, with both the manufacturer and the operator giving them a special name and, if necessary, claiming that they are trolleybuses, but without the trolleys...

Thank you for you info and also for the praise, Alex.
Its a pity that a lot of cities prefers e-buses in the end, instead of troleybuses, in that case instead of trams which is really unbelievable.
Honestly saying, I am surprised that trolleybuses are still in service in Coimbra and I am glad for the oppurnity to take some shots of them.
