The service had a consistently low patronage, a key reason being the centre of the Zhangjiang district shifting away from the area served by the Translohr; the high cost of parts also played a role in its demise.

Маршрут Т1 продлён до Xinmiaosan Road;
Маршрут Т2 продлён от Zhongchen Road до North Sanxin Road и становится кольцевым.

После открытия этих участков длина сети Songjiang tram составляет 26,8 км.

Открыт первый участок новой трамвайной сети Songjiang tram. Длина линии между конечными остановками Zhongchen Road на востоке и Canghua Road на западе составляет 13,9 км. Всего на линии 20 остановок.

Всего в эксплуатации в Шанхае находится (вместе с рядом восстановленных и BRT) 13 троллейбусных маршрутов общей протяжённостью 146,8 км.
Действуют маршруты №№:6,8,13,14,15,19,20,22,23,24,25,28 и 71 (BRT).

В преддверии 100 летнего юбилея троллейбусного движения принято решение не закрывать троллейбусную сеть.
Заказаны 300 новых троллейбусов Youngman Neoplan JNP6120BEV1, первая партия из 60 троллейбусов прибыла в город в марте, остальные- до конца года.
Вместе с этим списаны все старые троллейбусы, а также закрыт троллейбусный маршрут №13, после чего осталось 10 троллейбусных маршрутов в эксплуатации.

Троллейбусная сеть Шанхая оказалась под угрозой закрытия из-за развернувшихся по всему городу строительных работ, возведению развязок и прокладке новых линий метрополитена.
С 1994 г. по 2013 г. из 20 маршрутов последовательно закрыты 9: №№9, 12, 16, 18 и 27. Позднее, в 2000 — х годах: №№ 17 и 21, а к 2008 г.: №№11 и 26.
В 2013 г. Шанхайский троллейбус входит с 11 маршрутами, которые обслуживает парк примерно из 150-ти последних троллейбусов.
