The 22 km-long single trolleybus BRT line was under construction since 2006. It is known that 80 articulated Neoplan trolleybuses (or rather duobuses) were purchased at about the same time since Venezuela was flush with oil money at the time. The test segment between 3 stops was opened and operated in a full trolleybus mode as intended between 23/11/2012 — 6/2/2013. However, the line operated for a few hours a day only as a demonstration segment. The project, however, was poorly managed, as it was plagued with cost overruns, and thus was canceled. Or, at least, the trolleybus element of it was canceled. Neoplan duobuses were then used in a diesel mode only.
